UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES

Despite condoms are the most effective contraceptive at preventing STIs, UT students often have unprotected sex. Research conducted by University Health Services (UHS) found that more than half of the students reported to have unprotected sex during the last 30 days.

OBJECTIVE

To decrease the number of occasions of unprotected sex among college students through increased condom usage

RESEARCH
  • Secondary research on sexual activity; condom use; students’ attitude towards Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) & Unplanned Pregnancy; services of UHS

  • Interviews with Health Promotion Coordinator and Health Promotion Office Manager

  • Interviews with students on campus on the location of UHS building and proximity to it. The interviews were conducted in four different locations on campus.

INSIGHTS
  • UT students either don't know where the UHS building is located or think that it is too far from their regular ways

  • Men care more about using contraception to prevent STIs while women are more concerned about birth control

  • Drinking increases possibility of unprotected sex

STRATEGY

To increase condom usage by increasing awareness of UHS locations and services

PERSONAS
TACTICS
  • Be Closer: to install the dispensers with condoms in four additional locations around campus and to inform students about those locations through campus maps and the UTexas app.

  • Talk Their Language: create Snapchat filters geo targeting UT stadium to promote protected sex and to inform about dispensers’ locations.

  • Make Them Know: inform students on the necessity of STIs prevention through attention grabbing posters door hangers around campus.
